In December 2013, Sheffield City Council commissioned the Academy’s Place Partnering team to visit and perform a diagnostic review of the proposed New Retail Quarter.
The New Retail Quarter is a site that has been adversely affected by changes to the economic environment over the past five years, with the previous masterplan falling victim to these circumstances. Sheffield City Council are keen to secure the best possible sustainable future and engaged with the Academy for support.
The diagnostic team visited with the aim of meeting, listening to, and drawing out all interested parties’ opinions on the appropriate mix of uses, relative scale, the relationship of development to context and redevelopment to reuse.
The following report was produced by the panel and presented to the City Council.
