Jon Rowland has worked extensively in UK and abroad. Jon’s UK work includes the masterplan for the award winning Telford Millennium Community; and masterplans for urban extensions at Runcorn, Grove, Cottam Hall in Preston shortlisted for RTPI award, West Harlow and Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire. He provided the urban design framework for the NW Quarter and five masterplans for key regeneration areas of inner Belfast. He has carried out urban design strategies for various town and city centres including Cardiff, Lincoln and Gloucester Docks. Projects for the regeneration of Stranraer and Temple Quay North in Bristol were both shortlisted for urban design awards. Past work includes the coastal infrastructure masterplan for Rhosneigr, Anglesey, and a masterplan for the improvement of Culham Science Park for UKAEA. Jon was part of the winning team for the Wolfson Garden City competition. Most recently he has completed a design research study for house-builders.
Jon has written many articles on urban design and was the author of the Strategy for Architecture and the Built Environment in the South West. He co-edited Urban Design Futures published August 2006. He has lectured extensively. He is past Chair of the Urban Design Group and is a member of the Design Council / CABE’s National and Oxford Design Review Panels and one of their BEEs. Jon is Chair of the BOB-MK Design Network for local authority officers in the South-East.
